Organizing Inventory

Working for a event company, there is a ton of inventory like a mentioned in my previous post Photoshoot Ready! Its important to stay organized when dealing with many products. Staying organized with the inventory, means that you will be able to find products easier and faster. The first thing you need to do to get organized is to make a spreadsheet. In this spreadsheet, you need to add categories like the name of the item, description of it, the quantity and sku number. IMG_0630The sku number is difficult to find on most items because you have to look online or through catalogs in order to find them It has taken me very long to look up some of the items because one of the companies my boss get most of her products from only does catalogs (and these books are thick!).You add all of these categories in order to easily look up where the item is in the inventory room and you can identify what it looks like and which box it is in that much easier. This is really important because when asked to go grab items for an event, I will be educated on where those items are and do not have to sort through the entire room.

As I mentioned before, organizing is a huge part of my job and our company. We recently, took the time and pulled out everything from our inventory room and counted the products and boxed them up so that it is organized in the room. This way the items are now set up and in the places they should be. It is important to lay out the room so that you can easily access the items IMG_0627as well. My boss already had two shelving units in the room that had three shelfs on them each. We added a third shelving unit in order to display the items in their boxes so that they were more visual. IMG_0626This way it keeps structure. There is also a craft desk located in the room, where we have gone through and organized all of the tools, ribbon, markers and so much more. This way when we need to make signs for a wedding or centerpieces everything is easily accessible. To be able to go through all the items and get them in the right place is a good way to realize the items you have and what you don’t have. It’s good to know what items you need to order more of if you are running low. There are some other great tips for organizing inventory found here. This system can be used in the household too! Go through your closets, kitchen, garage really any room in your home and be able to see what items you already have and get them organized. By creating a spreadsheet and a organized room you will be able to be more efficient and productive!

Happy Thursday!

Photoshoot Ready!

Working for an event planning and design company has been nothing entertaining, exciting and most importantly fun! My boss decided that since she has so much inventory for weddings and parties that she wanted to design a catalog in order to rent out some of this inventory. In order for her to showcase all of the inventory IMG_0576
she decided to have a photoshoot so that we could use the photos for the catalog. We pulled all of the inventory that my boss has collected over the years and set up “sets” so that she could show off each item. We could also show how some items are versatile and could be used in many different ways. We had the photoshoot outside so that we could use the natural sunlight in order to show off all the products.

We set up one of the tables with La Tavola linens (Watercolors- Turquoise), which had a IMG_0583wooden basket filled with bread, a cheese board and two different types of serving trays on it. One of the types of serving trays is a metal rounded tray with rippled edges with one having a stand and one without a stand. The other trays have wood stands and marble tops. Also, we added a teal vase with assorted flowers to brighten up the look.

Our next table, we also used La Tavola linens (Emily- Berry), which is a fun and playful linen that has different shades of magenta. IMG_0582It also uses, white, yellow and greens to contrast with the magenta. For this table, we used the same flower arrangement that we used on the previous table. We also used a metal wine bucket. Also, arranged in the middle of the table we put two different styles of votives. Both of the votives are from the Gracie Votive collection at Accent Decor, one of them is smaller and the other a little larger.

We had so many products and table set ups that I couldn’t take photos of every product but these two tables were just so amazing and I had to share with you guys! Being able to have a photoshoot for the company is amazing. It was great for me to get ideas as my boss was working and being able to learn from her. The photoshoot will help us be able to rent out the products for weddings and parties and be able to make peoples events look beautiful!

Graduation Party Ideas

Graduation can be such an exciting time for a young college graduate. Celebrating your many accomplishments over the past four years and seeing what the future holds. Being able to celebrate with your loved ones is one of the best parts so why not have a party!

Recently, I had my college graduation party at my parents house back home in California. We invited all of my family, friends and neighbors that I have known for basically my whole life. It was one big reunion! I was so excited to help my mom with this party. We put so much thought into what we wanted to cook and how we wanted to decorate. We went to good ol Pinterest to get some ideas on what exactly we were looking for! We found some great ideas on graduation party ideas. I also found the blog by Hostess with the Mostess, which had some awesome ideas for a party!IMG_0494

My party was held outdoors in my parents backyard, which is a great location because you get the sunlight with all of the beautiful outdoor amenities like the waterfall, built in barbecue and garden my parents have. It made the party just that much nicer by having it outside. We started thinking about the theme, first by picking the colors we wanted to use. We obviously had chosen blue for the University of Nevada and then used silver, black and white as our other colors to accent. We tied all of these colors in throughout the party with the decorations to the food. We choose to have fresh flowers in mason jars as center pieces on all the tables. We also shared throughout the house and IMG_0449backyard, chalkboard signs that had little sayings revolving around graduation. We also decided for food to have a “chip bar” and lemonade stand just to bring some character to the party.

Another great idea that we found on Pinterest was to design the numbers 2-0-1-5 in to larger numbers and make them a cupcake stand. In order to do this, my dad cut the numbers out of wood and made them large enough to hold about 10-15 cupcakes each. He also put wood blocks underneath the numbers on the table to raise them to make the numbers stand out more for guests to see. IMG_0495

The party was such a success and it was a total blast. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. My mom got so many compliments on her work and how great everything was. I was so proud and happy that she held such an amazing event! We had so much fun designing and creating such a fun party where our closet friends and family could gather!

Until next time!

Making a Useful Furniture Piece with Limited Space

There are only two ways my bed can fit in my bedroom. Either in the center of the room against the window or how it is positioned now, in the corner on the right side of the room. So when I changed my room around, and positioned my bed on the right side of the room, it was difficult for me to add my old nightstand because it would be blocking the door. I cant tell you how frustrating it is to not be able to have a class of water next to your bed or a place to put your remote or reading glasses when its time to go to bed. I had to think of a creative way in order for me to utilize this little space I had in order to make some sort of night stand.

Since I had about one foot between my bed frame and the door to work with, I felt shelves may be my best bet. I started out by getting two, 1 foot by 1 foot wood squares and sanded them and stained them with black wood stain. I made about three coats of the stain with just a medium size paintbrush. IMG_0567

After the wood squares dried, I then began to build the shelving foundation. I went to Home Depot hardware store and purchased two 12” shelf tracks as well as four 12” self track brackets. This way I was able to haveIMG_0561 two shelves, one right below the other. I also purchased from Home Depot a dry wall and stud anchor screws to make sure that the shelves were secure. I first started by using a normal screw driver and screwing in the two shelf tracks.
I didn’t have a level, so I started the first track then added the shelf on once I finished screwing in the first track so that I could make sure that the second track would be level. Once I had the tracks in place, I then added the self track brackets. I put in the first two at the very top and then the second two on the very bottom, so that there was enough space between the two selves.

After the foundation for the shelves had been put up, I then added the wood squares right on top of the brackets. I made sure that the unit was secure and in place before I added some decor pieces to the new night stand. IMG_0566

In all I spent a total of thirty dollars making this project. This is such an easy way to make a shelving unit if you are limited on space. Its also unique and creative which could add a lot of character and style to a room! There are so many other good ideas for
adding shelves in small spaces on HGTV.

My Creative Space

Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to design. Growing up I was constantly bored with the way I dressed or the way my room looked so I was always changing the style. Luckily, my mom is the same way so when I was younger she totally got wanting to change up my look. She always helped me in redesigning my room, even if it was as simple as changing around the furniture so that the room had a whole new look and feel. Now that I am older and living on my own, I have tried to design more efficiently and be more cost sensitive while still changing the style. When I moved into my home this year, I knew that I wanted to be able to make my room something special, where I could express my own chic design. Although it was hard to do that with a college budget, I made do. I began to make pieces on my own by using items that I had before and redesigning them. I also had a major Goodwill phase, where my roommates and I, almost every weekend, would go bargain shopping in order to find what we wanted and redesign pieces to make them our own.IMG_0847

Since I do share a house with three other people it’s difficult to create a whole house design on my own, but my room is a place where I can express my creativity fully. When I first started thinking about how I wanted to design the space I thought about the main colors I wanted to center my design around. I have been intrigued by designs that have gold in them, so I knew that I wanted to have some gold accents that would tie into another color. I decided on a deep purple with the gold accents. I combined all white furniture which helped to brighten up the room with the dark purple accent.IMG_0842

Designing was the hard part. Trying to decide where I wanted to put everything within the space I had to work with was difficult. I probably changed my room around ten times before I finally decided where to just put the furniture. I began to piece different items together that I had designed on the walls and on my dresser and desk. The room filled up quickly with all of the decor and created a chic design. It slowly began to look like my kind of perfection.

Designing and creating is one of my biggest passions. I tend to show you guys pieces of hand-made creations as well as the design projects from working at my internship!

Until next time!
